Accurate ICD-10-CM coding in long-term care (LTC) is essential for care planning, quality reporting, and reimbursement. However, outdated habits, documentation gaps, and misunderstood guidelines can clutter the coding process and lead to ongoing challenges. This spring, it’s time to declutter your approach to ICD-10-CM coding.

Join AAPACN Curriculum Development Specialist Jennifer LaBay, RN, RAC-MT, RAC-MTA, QCP, CRC, for this 60-minute webinar as she helps you “clean out” the most common ICD-10-CM coding concerns in the LTC setting. This session will address issues such as failure to reassess diagnoses, overuse of unspecified codes, omission of active conditions, and misuse of history and combination codes—providing practical strategies to refresh and streamline coding practices. You will also learn how to stay current with biannual ICD-10-CM updates, particularly those effective each April, and how to incorporate these changes into facility processes to maintain a clean, compliant, and accurate coding system.

After participating in this webinar, you will be able to:

  • Recognize common ICD-10-CM coding challenges in long-term care and their impact on compliance, reimbursement, and quality reporting
  • Differentiate between active, resolved, acute, chronic, and historical conditions to ensure accurate and clinically relevant coding
  • Identify strong documentation and interdisciplinary collaboration practices to support precise and compliant coding
  • Discuss processes to review and how to integrate the biannual ICD-10-CM updates, including April updates, into facility workflows and education
